2. Keywords

Finding Your Keywords
Keywords are basically just the terms that people use to search for the products or services that you offer.  Generate an extensive keyword list for the niche you choose, and print it out. You don’t want just the most searched for keywords, you also want the “long tail” (more than 3 words) keywords that apply to your site, even if they’re searched for infrequently. Most people search using a combination of from 2-4 words. One word searches, or a search using 5 or more words, only account for about 25% of the total. Still, the longer terms will be easier to rank highly for, and that business is easier to get, especially if you give people exactly what they’re looking for with the long tail searches. The tools mentioned in Step 1 can also help with this.

Try adding brand names to your keywords, or more specific and less common terms for each one.  You can also try adding qualifiers to each term.  Someone searching for “cat toys” might also type in “unique cat toys” or “how to make cat toys”.  Web CEO will give you a lot of suggestions for these more obscure terms, but if you’re very familiar with the market that you’re in, you can probably come up with many more.  Feed these into the software and see how many more it comes up with.  At this point, the more keyword phrases you can find, the better. Now you want to sort these keywords, and find the most profitable ones.  WebCEO will help with this, as well.

Once you have an extensive list, sort it into ranking by KEI.  You will probably find that many of these high ranking keywords are ones that you thought in advance would be your best choices.  Still, you’ll probably also find quite a few that you wouldn’t have thought of at first, that will also rank highly.  Once you have a long list of keywords that you need product for, the next step is to either find, create or make sure you have in stock, the product or products to fit these customer’s needs.  To do that, continue to Step 3
